Confirmed from Achenbach Canyon Hiking Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Hiking area featuring a loop trail with views and rocky canyons.
What runners say about Achenbach Canyon Hiking Trail
“This is a somewhat challenging hike due to rocky, uphill beginning section of the trail, but once you get past that it opens up into a beautiful area.”
“Well marked and easy to follow.”
Probably my favorite trail in the area. Well marked and easy to follow. Abby loved the hike since she climbed to the top of one of the ridges.
Did this trail to explore the shelter cave trail but I think google maps put the shelter cave on the wrong location of the map. Although, I’m just gonna leave it at that due to my alltrails tracking.
Excellent hike! This is just like one of those backwood trails you used to find back in the day before "they" started fencing everything off. The area is isolated enough to see plenty of wildlife. I came across a scorpion and a rattler within the first hour of my hike, so be cautious.
Wonderful, beautiful moderate hike. There is some loose gravel in some areas, but it's not too bad. Recommend visiting if you're able too!

“Road back to parking requires 4WD with clearance, but you can park out near main gravel road (just not on the road!”
“Overall this trail was moderate to hike there and back with couple incline steps and at the end of the hike is the view of the shelter cave.”
“The main trail continues east all the way to soledad canyon road (unmaintained to moderately maintained sand/gravel road, not open to civilian motorized traffic).”
