Confirmed from Asilomar Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Tidal pools, beach trail featuring rock formations, tide pools and views of the Pacific Ocean, plus walking and running trails.
What runners say about Asilomar Trail
“Limiting rogue parking and making an effort to stay on trails will hopefully keep this gorgeous trail around for a long time.”
Awesome trail and beautiful views with very clear water. Lots of marine life.
Love the recent improvements to the walking trail making it easier to stay off the road/bicycle path. Limiting rogue parking and making an effort to stay on trails will hopefully keep this gorgeous trail around for a long time. Views for days no matter how you choose to visit. Run, stroll, bike, drive.
Beautiful place to walk on the trail or the beach. Also, enjoy the tide pools and climbing the rocks. Our dogs enjoyed walking with us. My son really enjoyed climbing the rocks. We all enjoyed the tide pools and a nice path or trail to walk on. Beautiful place to view the sunset. We also saw deer!
This is a great trail that has multiple staircases going down to the actual beach. It's great to see all the sea life in this area.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
