Confirmed from Bearwallow Mountain's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Bearwallow Mountain

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (103 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 9 mentions

“The trail leading up the mountain takes the hiker through a beautiful hardwood forest, teeming with numerous wildflowers.”

We went on daily hikes while staying in Asheville and this is one of my favorites. Approximately two miles of a loop with an easier gravel road on one side and a moderate hike on an unpaved trail through the woods on the other. It was enough of a hike to break a sweat but not be overwhelming.

Great area to hike with amazing views. Only about a mile (moderately hilly) from the parking area, the top is cleared and provides nice long-range views to the south. Nice area to take the family. Note - the area is an active farm so cattle may be in the area

Awesome place to hike. Great for families. The views are amazing when you get there.

★★★★★ — Matt , Sep 2024

Such a beautiful day hike to spend viewing cows or having a picnic for a view.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

“One of our favorite lower elevation hikes to do with kids and when it's getting cooler since it's not as high up as some of our other favorites.”

🅿️ Trailhead parking 4 mentions

“While the parking area is basically a pulloff on the side of the road, that I'm sure is a nightmare on a busy day, once you do find a spot, the hike is well worth it.”
