Epic. Beautiful trail that winds up Black Mountain, through chaparral, and into ponderosa pine, with giant beautiful granite boulders throughout. Trail is well kept, and offers gorgeous views to the southwest and north/northwest (looking across at the continuation of the San Bernardino mtns where Big Bear is).
7.5 mile out and back hike to the Black Mountain fire tower. The snow was gone when I did this hike. Great views of San Gorgonio on the way up. The tower is open seasonally and was scheduled to open the next day.
This was a tough hike and there were a few times on the way up and back down that I lost the trail. Luckily there is usually some cell reception so I could use my hiking app to figure out where I was supposed to go. It's really beautiful and there are lots of different looking areas that you pass through.
Awesome trail. Hiked up to the lookout at the top of the mountain. Amazing view. Ran in to a group of "Free climbers" on the way down. I'm thinking their "crash pads" need to be thicker!
