Confirmed from Cat Rock Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

This open space with forests, fields & ponds is a busy off-leash spot for four-legged guests.

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (589 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 5 mentions

“Nature is beautiful, when you are walking around you could hear the woodpeckers.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“The surrounding trails are peaceful and great for a serene winter walk, and the park’s natural beauty shines year-round.”

🐕 dog-walking favorite 3 mentions

“The huge surprise was that you can let your dog walk without the leash.”

I’ve been to the park numerous times during lunch breaks as this is right behind Verizon office in Waltham. This weekend I decided to take my puppy there with my friends and all of us enjoyed it. This is such a huge area for the dogs to run around, chase and play. We were so lucky to be there when the lake was frozen.

Love this off-leash dog park. Have been coming here for 3 years now. Parking lot is open to residents only from Friday-Sunday, so that is a deterrent. However, there are small pullouts by the road at other entrances where one can park their car. Plenty of small trails to enjoy the forest with your dogs.

Great hike! This hike is easy and the length is 1.2 mi, it might take 30 minutes to walk around. The huge surprise was that you can let your dog walk without the leash. A lot of people bring their dogs. This hike has a lake where your dog can swim.

Very good hiking location. The intensity is low. There is a nice little lake there as well. Pretty good views! However, we didn't see any cats here but lots of people were walking their dogs.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🐕 Dog-friendly 40 mentions

“Cat Rock Park is a very large park with hiking trails, fields, a pond the dogs swim in.”
