Confirmed from Coles Woods' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Coles Woods

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (164 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 5 mentions

“Going on and warm day was wonderful and the surroundings were very picturesque with a lot of flat wide areas along with some rolling hill type trails as well.”

Nice wide walking paths. We don't participate in winter sports but I believe they groom the trails for snowshoeing and cross country skiing. The only negative I can think of, is some people believe they don't need to obey the leash law. I don't want to be run up on by your "friendly" dog please!

★★★★☆ — Dani , Jun 2019

New to the area and live nearby so I walk on the trails frequently with my dog. It’s a beautiful place to walk when the weather is nice. UPDATE: EDIT: parking/entrance is NOT on F street. Google maps brings you to F street but the entrance is at 40 Parkview ave.

Local legends says Bigfoot was spotted multiple times in these woods behind aviation mall. The elusive, prehistoric creature is said to frequent portions of upstate NY, and this location called “Coles Woods” is one of the hot spots of sightings..

★★★★★ — Roonie , Nov 2024

This woods is a true local gem. Beautifully maintained trails in a mature forest.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

💡 Lit for night running 11 mentions

“The trails were well groomed and the light made it possible to continue skiing into the early evening.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
