Confirmed from Erwin Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Popular park featuring paved and off-road trails, playgrounds, campgrounds and pavilions.
What runners say about Erwin Park
“Plenty of good parking and it’s a fairly clean park that is taken care of and administered correctly or to the best those who take care of it.”
“It's a beautiful place, and you can enjoy the solitude of nature, the lushness of the flora and the serenity of the lack of hustle and bustle.”
“I’ve only been during the daytime and it was safe and family friendly.”
This is a wonderful trail with plenty of elevation changes and beautiful tree cover. I even spotted an armadillo on my last visit. It’s never too crowded, making it a great option if you’re in the McKinney area and looking for something close by.
Wonderful place to hike! This is one of my favorite trails that I've ever hiked on. It is very well maintained, safe, clean, and full of beautiful scenery. There is a little bit of wild life along the way. You'll pass a farm with long horned cattle. We also saw a rabbit. I recommend doing the entire 8 mile hike.
A great mountain bike park and jumps for all ages. A great place to camp, hike, or even just to come and think. I love the long hike through the park. I will be camping here one day
Good trail for Mountain bike or hiking. Total distance is roughly 10 miles. Not a lot of steep climbs but some that will get your legs burning. Several sections to get some speed and have fun. Lots of open areas so keep that in mind in the summer or windy days.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
