Confirmed from Forbes Creek Stairs' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Forbes Creek Stairs

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (78 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

I train here occasionally. For the most part it’s easily located and has parking above and below the stairs. Around the stairs is thick brush and forest which makes it a little creepy to climb late at night. I always bring my dog when I climb by myself at night otherwise it might be wise to carry mace.

★★★★☆ — Destiny , Jul 2018

The stairs are great for a workout. The hiking area is right next to it. A couple of different trails. But they do get muddy and slippery when it rains. The park in the top is great for kids to play, picnic, etc. Dog friendly. No pass requirement was posted, I think because it is city land.

Great place to get a good work out. It consists in 200 stairs that take you to a neighborhood park, where you can walk or run. There's some equipment there available to excersice and a nice playground.

★★★★★ — Megustastu , Aug 2020

Sure, there's a pretty park at the top, but the real exercise is taking this 200+ step path up-and-down repeatedly. Great exercise!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
