Confirmed from Gateway Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Gateway Park
“But this park offers beautiful views of the Mystic River specially at sunset.”
Easy to overlook as you as you go in and out of the shopping area. But this park offers beautiful views of the Mystic River specially at sunset. I've seen birthday parties under the canopy of the trees, which seemed like a good cheap idea. Although not very large the walking paths are delightful.
At the end of the Northern Strand Community Trail instead of left to go to Encore, go to right. Follow the paved path, it'll take you by the river. It's so beautiful there.
Its a quite enjoyable short walk along the river im just not sure how people are finding the woodchips path with that bench I was looking forward to finding it but never did.
In the summer of 2025 the city added woodchips to the walking path that runs along the river and they added a bench overlooking the river. Its a great place for birdwatchers

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
