Lots of shade with a few stretches of open sunny skies (weather permitting). Mostly flat with a few slight grades (think railroad grade). Nice parking next to the First Christian Church pavilion. Surface is a fine grit, walking or trail shoes are good. Distance markers let you know how far to the next road/landmark.
I've been traveling across the country and like to hike at my stops. Unfortunately, since Kansas going east every trail I've hiked is loaded with ticks. Iron Horse is nice wide trail with mowed edges, many varieties of plants, trees, some wildflowers, birds, occasionally deer, a groundhog, even a snake...but no ticks!
A great place to run, hike, pray, meditate, praise, or ride a bike! It's gorgeous in all seasons, and I love the history and legends surrounding Mud Lake, quicksand, and the railroad.
Best trail. Well kept, slight tree coverage, and there’s a restroom and picnic area at one end. I even saw two park rangers on bicycles there.
