Confirmed from Ivy Hill Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Ivy Hill Park
“very nice and secure, they have everything, including tennis field very clean”
The park is a recreational mecca for the Ivy Hill section of Newark. It boasts a state of the art playground, tennis & basketball courts, baseball and softball fields, walking track and a brand new combination soccer/football field.
Are little boys not allowed to wait with their moms in the ladies bathroom? We were harassed by the staff for me having my 7 year old wait for me and my daughter outside the stall. I was also told I should be using the men's bathroom then. And when I was walking by to go home, she ran to lock the ladies bathroom door.
Love it! But, it would be nice to have a robot shovel the paths, so that we could walk, really nice! The Essex County Parks need snow removal robots!🤷🏽♀️. Just saying!
One of the best places to visit. Within walking distance of my home. Gives me an instant peace of mind.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
- At the trailheadrestrooms — reported by runners
