Confirmed from James O. Breen Community Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about James O. Breen Community Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (317 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

“Hopefully it's by the field house so you can walk to clean restrooms or it's a porta-potty for you.”

🐕 dog-walking favorite 3 mentions

“The dogs seem to love everything about it and the owners all seem happy to have happy pups.”

Very well maintained and large park. There are multiple parking lots, depending on how far you want to walk. There are clearly marked sports fields, walking paths, a community garden, and a small water park here.

Great park with lots of activities! This park on the west side of Saint Charles offers many activities including soccer fields, football, nature center, shelters, pool, hiking trails, community gardens, dog park, and my favorite reason to visit is disc golf.

★★★★☆ — Derek , Apr 2016

I run my puppies (aka my soccer boys) a couple times of year for games. The fields are nice. Parking is great if you can figure out which field you are on. Note there are like 4-5 options. Get your steps in of you choose the wrong one.

★★★★★ — Kristi , Oct 2019

This park is very diverse. It has soccer fields, a water park, walking trails, disc golf, a nature center, and a dog park. All of these facilities are well kept and beautiful.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🐕 Dog-friendly 40 mentions

“This is an outstanding dog park with a huge, multi acre, open area and both a very large agility course and a very long puppy pen.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
