Confirmed from Japanese Gulch 19th Street Neighborhood Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Relaxed outdoor area offering marked trails for hiking and biking through a wooded area.
What runners say about Japanese Gulch 19th Street Neighborhood Trailhead
“This is a beautiful gulch with plenty of hiking/biking/walking trails”
Best hike I had, the trails are not well mapped but that keeps us exploring. Lot of fun activities like tree climbing, rock climbing, trunk fallen like bridge where we can walk my kid and us enjoyed it totally.
The hike to the dog park may seem short but it is extremely steep. The other trails are very easy. You may want to bring chalk to not get lost. We saw a few owls here. Very cool!!
Besides the recurring airplanes going over, its a super great hiking trail with old tress and river streams.
The directions we had took us through a lot of neighborhoods but was worth it. The wooded area has plenty of marked trails and is quite expansive. Easy to spend time outdoors while not having to get outta the suburbs

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
