Confirmed from La Vista Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about La Vista Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (126 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 4 mentions

“There is no playground for the kids but the disc golf course is well maintained with concrete pads and alternate hole locations ranging from Par 3 to a par 5.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 4 mentions

“The park is beautiful, and it’s nice that you can hear the water from the creek flowing as you enjoy the nature all around.”

Nice walk down to the Mississippi. Wooded with stream running beside the walking path.

★★★★★ — Susan , Feb 2022

Nice paved trail, but it goes down hill a pretty good pace and so that means you got to come back up! If you're not in shape you might start on a flat Trail. Last time I was there someone was having a hard time getting back up the hill. I was very worried about them but they wouldn't accept help.

★★★★★ — Ssanders , May 2025

Nice walking trail from Rt 3 to River Road. Incline on LaVista side. 2 miles round trip. Dogs welcome, leashed of course and please be courteous; clean up after yur pets.

★★★★☆ — Kit , Sep 2020

The trail pavement has been refreshed and there are new park benches especially on the hill. Lots of people Saturday playing Frisbee golf.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at La Vista Park

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
  • Distance3 mi as reported — check whether that is one way or a round trip before you commit
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
