Confirmed from Little Calumet River Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Part of a 3.9-mi. loop trail, with scenery including hardwood forests, prairie & river wetlands.
What runners say about Little Calumet River Trail
“Restrooms are right near the trailhead and are clean and well maintained.”
“Towering trees and verdant landscapes created a stunning backdrop, reminding me of the untamed wonders of nature.”
“Easy hike, hard dirt, wood chipped, or mowed grass trails.”
We really love this trail. It's very serene and relatively cool even on warmer days as much of it is shaded. You can get in a good walk/hike as the entire trail is almost three and a half miles.
Lots of different things to see. We hiked past a historical settlement, parts of the river, through prairie and woodlands, past an environmental education center, and a boat launch. Easy hike, hard dirt, wood chipped, or mowed grass trails.
Chellberg farm was amazing. Beautiful house. Park Rangers are amazing. Trail was excellent. The homestead was alright. The trail up is slightly steep and a bit slippery when wet and muddy. The farm has lots of programs on the weekends and some day camps. Lots to see. House is decorated so nice and quaint.
Good place for a hike, ride or canoeing/ kayaking. We took the trail and had some good hills too. FPCC had the Forest cut and clean. Nice job!!!!
