Confirmed from Lower Overlook's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Lower Overlook

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (877 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 8 mentions

“The Chattahoochee River just coming into Lake Lanier is one of the clearest most beautiful bodies of water I have ever seen.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“Not a big deal, left her at home and had a peaceful stroll along the river taking in the awesome views of the Dam.”

Beautiful path next to the lake. Need to cross the street if you follow the path so not ideal. Also, downed trees in the pathway makes it difficult to follow the path around the dam area. Worth a look though. The bbq amenities are great and view is worth your time.

Beautiful hike! As an older hiker I personally would not classify as an “easy” hike but doable. There are roots and steps, and inclines, but so worth it. Lake views, plants and trees make you feel far from town but this hike is located minutes from Buford, GA.

★★★★★ — Carolyn , Jun 2021

A short or longer hiking from the parking lot, following the white marking, easy access to a small beach, lake front and nice trail. You can easily log a 3-5 miles.

★★★★★ — Mikecolumbia , Apr 2021

Nice view on lake Lanier. The area itself isn't spacious, but it was good starting point for a hike to the upper overlook, down to Buford Dam and along Chattahoochee river and back. I only made my way back to upper overlook by going past the gate of the (I think) power house.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
