Confirmed from McHattie Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about McHattie Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (495 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 3 mentions

“Wonderful community park kept very clean and organized.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 3 mentions

“Beautiful grounds and a great picnic area.”

🌳 shaded & cool 3 mentions

“Great areas for a shade-covered lunch, plenty of sporting fields (soccer, baseball, volleyball, etc), and really close to The Witches Hat for something neat to check out.”

This is a hidden gem. Beautiful grounds and a great picnic area. We had a 1st birthday party at this park. They have tables and a covered building to have your event. Kids can run and play away from traffic. We had dogs with us and everyone had a great time.

This is a wonderful park just a short walk away from downtown South Lyon. We mostly come here because our two year old loves the play structures here. There are so many options, and new ones seem to be added from time to time. McHattie is usually bustling on a nice day, but it never feels overly crowded.

★★★★★ — Michael , May 2024

This park is rarely used in cooler weather, especially during the week. The toddler structure is in very poor condition. The park is not well maintained in colder months. It does have a nice snow hill for younger kids, but this park sorely lacks the correct volume of parking.

Safe and fun sledding hill. They even put hay bales at the bottom in case you hit a tree. It is only one mound in the middle of a small park so not much variety but it is only a short 30 sec walk up so it’s easy. Good for 3+ I’m and adult and had a blast!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🚻 Restrooms 7 mentions

“There are public restrooms and free parking, though the entrance can be a bit hard to find if you're not familiar with the area.”
