Confirmed from Oakwoods Nature Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

We have been trying to get our girls prepared for a trip to Chicago so we have been doing daily walks and trying to mix things up a bit. This place was a google search bonus.

Amazing options for routes and scenery! Hardly any elevation gain. You can hear the highway faintly the whole time, but just quiet enough to zone it out within a few minutes. Beautiful views! The route I took was just under 3 miles and took roughly an hour.

Lovely place to walk. It has large fish. Just hard to get decent access to Cast your lure into the good spots. Stopped out to see if leaves were falling. Not yet though. Water is very low right now. It's still a great place to walk and enjoy nature.

This place is SO cute! We were on our honeymoon and stopped halfway back home at an Airbnb, in the morning before we hit the road we stopped here with our coffee and were blown away by how nice and cute it was! Great trails, fishing spots, little lookout, picnic spots. It was very nice!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
