Confirmed from Portage Creek Wildlife Reserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Portage Creek Wildlife Reserve

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (69 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🌾 quiet & peaceful 6 mentions

“Nice quiet place to enjoy wildlife and have peace, could be romantic with a little effort.”

Large expanse of grassland with a border of evergreens with lumpy surface to a bench facing a view of a busy street and mountains beyond. Not much going on, and that traffic noise nearby makes it unappealing. The gravel driveway is easy to miss and the parking lot could only hold half a dozen vehicles.

I didn't want to give it five stars because I did not make it all the way through. The short part that I did, it was fun and very peaceful. Great to just think and talk without having to go far from home and hiking a mountain.

★★★★☆ — Ethan , Jan 2019

Trail wasn't groomed recently (4/21/19) but the sound of the wind and Wildlife, mixed with the occasional small plane overhead, was great.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
