Confirmed from Prairie Oaks Metro Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🏃 great for running 2 mentions

“Perfect place to go for a walk, run or jog and even bring the dog.”

🪧 well-marked 4 mentions

“I had a really nice time jogging around the loop trail, it’s well-maintained and easy to follow, which made it super enjoyable.”

🐕 dog-walking favorite 5 mentions

“Love going to the dog friendly beach, as it is unfenced and usually means better behaved dogs for a dog park!”

Nice metro park just a short drive west of Columbus. There are a couple different shelter houses. A large playground area for the kids. Ample amount of parking available, as well as restroom facilities. There are trails here as well, but I didn't have time to walk them.

One of my favorite Metro Parks in all of Ohio! 2 separate entrances to park but are connected through nature trails. The west side entrance has horse trails and picnic areas, while the opposite entrance is to Darby Bend Lakes, a quarry of 3 lakes and the Big Darby River flows right through the park!

Nice park. There's a great dog beach where dogs can swim without a leash. There are plenty of walking trails and fun equipment for kids. Fishing seems to be popular. Trying to find the dog beach, fishing or anywhere else, however, is a struggle since there is poor signage.

Of all the parks I have stumbled upon or sought out in the greater Columbus area, Prairie Oaks is by far my favorite. There is a certain peace in the air as one looks out at the great, grassy fields. The paths are well-kept, and there are a couple of bathroom facilities that are nice to have.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
