Confirmed from Ravine's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Brooklyn's only forest, this urban oasis in Prospect Park is the setting for weekend nature tours.
What runners say about Ravine
“It's rustic and beautiful and provides a path that people with baby strollers, walkers or wheelchairs can use for a great Prospect Park walk.”
“But the scent of the smoke was really strong, along with a serene yet tense feeling in the air.”
This spot is such a gem, so peaceful and quiet. Felt like I was somewhere and I was literally right in Brooklyn. A well needed hike!
Very cool that Prospect Park has its own forest, the largest in Brooklyn. The waterfall is pretty though not enormous. The paths here are great for a meander on a nice day, particularly with the leaves changing. Bring a dog friendly for a romp in the nearby pond as well.
In a word, the Grand Canyon of New York City. This sumptuous ledge perches on the edge of a purgatory of fall foliage, a veritable comme sonne comme sonne du san if one can catch it in the right moment.
Beautiful in Winter. Feel for a moment like your far from the city, getting lost in a forest. Maples, Mountain Laurels, Sycamores and many other species of plants to observe. The paved paths are easy to navigate with a stoller or wheelchair. For others there's paths through the woods and some steep stone steps.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
