Confirmed from Rhodine Scrub Nature Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Relaxed nature preserve featuring 2 main trails which snake through oaks and pines as well as scrubland.

What runners say about Rhodine Scrub Nature Preserve

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (82 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🌳 shaded & cool 4 mentions

“Good open trails, and now with better blazes, and is mostly open with a little shade.”

One of the best trails in the hillsborough Paul system of nature preserves. There are no facilities at Rhodine and access is via Steven J. Wortham Park. To gain access there is a very easy short stream hop, a child can handle. The trails are 60/70% shaded but still remember to bring your water and bug spray.

★★★★☆ — Ric , Dec 2020

Awesome nature preserve with 2 hiking trails. The longer trail is a moderate 1.7 hike, and the second trail is a moderate 1.4 miles long. The preserve is part of the Hillsborough county Hiking Spree program. If you're participating in the 2020 Spree, you have to complete your required 8 hikes during March.

★★★★★ — Luis , Mar 2020

This preserve is adjacent to the county park. Multiple trails join the two locations. It is easy to wander off and end up in the neighboring park

★★★★☆ — Doug , Jul 2025

Entrance isn't marked, so rely on GPS to find it. Wide sandy path. No amenities, but good for dog walking my dog. I've only seen one other person walking her dog.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Rhodine Scrub Nature Preserve

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
