Confirmed from Riverwoods Park & Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🐕 dog-walking favorite 4 mentions

Just walked this trail for the first time and it was awesome. Not completely flat but very small hills. Also part of the trail is in the shade which is a huge plus for me. 4 stars because the bridge is out. So u can’t walk the hole trail.

★★★★☆ — Justin , May 2022

Nice trailhead with bathroom facilities. Only negative, the bridge on the loop trail around the river was out, so it was a really short walk

★★★★★ — Mark , Feb 2022

Great place to go for a walk/hike or have a picnic! Fairly quiet and well established, would absolutely recommend.

★★★★★ — Cody , Jun 2019

Wonderful, there is a big circular trail, half of the trail is in the forest along the river. You can walk, ride a bicycle, but it's best for walking the dog. One bad thing: in the spring there is a pretty a lot of mosquitos in the forest, but you can use another part of the trail.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
