We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Rock Creek Park yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Rock Creek Park is Washington, DC’s 1,754‑acre urban sanctuary—a lush mix of meadows, forests, and stream valleys right in the city. This historic natural preserve was founded in 1890 and designed by the Olmsted Brothers .

One of DC's most overlooked gems. Especially in the autumn, Rock Creek Park is just unbelievable. Plenty of hiking and biking paths, picnic areas, and vistas to cover whatever kind of park experience is desired. So grateful to live so nearby.

Absolutely gem of a place! The trails are well defined and the weather is chilly as compared to city. Recommend this place for morning runs or walks and dog-walks or just getting away from city hustle. Extremely quiet and satisfying.

I love running here, easily to combine trail running with road running, short or long. + excellent shade. Also you could bike, ride a horse, bring kids for the nature center and planetarium and events. A lot of access points and picnic tables. Love it!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
