Confirmed from Savannah National Wildlife Refuge's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

The Savannah Wildlife Refuge driving trail is a wonderfully relaxing experience. The 4-mile scenic drive offers beautiful views of nature and wildlife—everything from turtles and a wide variety of birds to the occasional alligator soaking up the sun on a warm day if you’re lucky.

It's a beautiful place, there are some limited parking spaces. We hiked Plantation Loop trail, did not see the alligators, saw Wood Storks. We did hikes one in the morning, one in the night. If weather is good, one should expect to see beautiful sunrise and sunset.

My husband and I spent about 3 hours here both at the center and the drive through. It was so nice to be able to drive through, get out and walk around, take pictures and really take in and enjoy the nature. Beautiful landscapes and birds to see. Spotted a few alligators as well!

Just a beautiful drive on a 65-degree day in October 2025. Nature trails, beautiful scenery, alligators, plenty of birds. I spent about 2 hours 45 minutes driving through, with plenty of places to pull over and a couple of small walks.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
