Confirmed from Shenipsit State Forest-Soapstone Mountain's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Shenipsit State Forest-Soapstone Mountain

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (366 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 9 mentions

“I love this place, beautiful trails, nice road to walk on to, all sorts of little ponds and streams.”

Great place to come hike or just drive up the mountain for the view/ride. I love coming here, this is one of my favorite places to come and relax when I'm in the area.

★★★★★ — John , Aug 2018

Nice hike. Late in the season with all the leaves on the ground it was hard to see the trails so we stuck to the hard top. Nice surprise of an observation deck at the top with great views. Porta potties, BBQ grills (too dry to cook) but a great option. Picnic tables.

★★★★★ — Cindy , Nov 2024

This was super cool. From atop a 40 foot observation tower on a clear day you can see into Vermont and New Hampshire! It is a relatively easy hike to the tower, but enough to get your heart rate up.

★★★★★ — Jean , Jul 2025

Soapstone mountain from main parking entrance has a 1/4 Mike trail to the top which is pretty strenuous. The views from the recently placed new lookout tower are awesome!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
