Confirmed from Sligo Creek Stream Valley Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
A paved biking trail with bridges over a creek runs through this wooded park with many playgrounds.
What runners say about Sligo Creek Stream Valley Park
“Beautiful scenery, and picked up a grocery bag worth of garbage (6 pack of Coors Light, bag of dog excrement, little princess kid's ball that was in the creek, couple Red Bulls).”
“One of the best walking, jogging, running and cycling trails in Montgomery County.”
“As you stroll along the trail, you’ll encounter dog walkers, runners, and families on bikes, all immersed in the serene surroundings.”
Great for jogging and walking your dog. They close the park on weekends for cars so its really quiet and peaceful.
Sligo Creek Stream Valley Park, nestled in the heart of Silver Spring, Maryland, is a natural haven that beckons both outdoor enthusiasts and curious wanderers. This scenic park runs alongside the meandering Sligo Creek, offering a delightful escape from the urban hustle.
Went on an easy hike with a friend this afternoon. It’s a nice park because it links up to two other parks actually. So if you finish this trail you can try to explore several others in the adjacent parks. I saw family riding their bikes, dog walkers, runners, and regular walkers like myself.
Sligo Creek Park is absolutely beautiful! It's a very peaceful walk or run. You'll find there are probably just as many people riding their bikes as their are people walking and running.

“The paved trail does have some unpaved paths as well but I didn’t explore them personally.”
“What a great trial that is extra accessible on Sundays!”
Plan your run at Sligo Creek Stream Valley Park
The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
