We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Summit Trail Trailhead yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Summit Trail Trailhead

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (46 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 3 mentions

“Endless options with great views you can go as long as 4 miles around the entire place or cut the paths in half to make it your level.”

👟 good for all levels 3 mentions

Decent beginner hiking at Guajome. I love this place and visit regularly. But for my family and me, it's more of a local resource for running the dogs and beginner mountain biking trails for the kids. You can connect the trails here to the San Luis Rey bike trail or get into the neighborhood.

★★★★☆ — Justin , Feb 2022

Beautiful peaceful place, great for dog walking, running, walking, bike riding etc..

★★★★★ — Elyse , Feb 2022

Great for pets, walkers, and runners. Endless options with great views you can go as long as 4 miles around the entire place or cut the paths in half to make it your level. I suggest at least a liter of water for the entire loop.

★★★★★ — Paul , Jul 2019

There are short trails 1 mile or up to 4 miles. Fairy safe. Watch out for poison oak. Take the high trail for a nice view of the lake. Dog friendly. Just be careful for rattle snakes

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

“Great starting area if you park along Guajome Lake Road (just outside the park) instead of parking in the 2 available parking lots within the park.”
