Confirmed from The 400 State Trail Headquarters' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Park featuring a well-maintained trail that's suitable for biking, hiking, and running.
What runners say about The 400 State Trail Headquarters
“Five stars for the well maintained trail.”
We stopped in to buy a trail pass and the lady was incredibly friendly. She made sure we knew which way we were headed on the trail and that we had a map and she wished us safe travels down the trail. As we pulled away we could see them watching us from inside.
Started our trip here. Lady behind the desk was very knowledgeable and friendly. Set us up with T-shirts and trail maps
Great place to get information and trail passes. The lady was very helpful and recommended some different maps.
Very nice building at the trail head. Bathrooms and place to sit for a bit if you desire. Plenty of parking.
Trail conditions & character
“Cool old railroad building, has bathrooms they sell the trail pass for bikes.”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceCrushed gravel — the rail-trail classic: softer than asphalt, still smooth enough for tempo work
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
