Awesome tunnel to hike, although there is no easy way down to the opening. Also, beware of micro spiders!
Very cool tunnel! The trail is very nice in this section and the tunnel is a huge bonus. Nice and cool on a hot day. There's an interesting historical sign on the south end.
Deceptively dark inside! We've ridden our bikes down the Rock Island Trail a few times and when you're in the middle of the tunnel you can't even see the ground. It's a little unnerving but any kind of small light (headlamp, bike light, or cell phone) will give you peace of mind. FUN!
Amazing that this use to be an actual train tunnel and now it is a great bike trail
