Confirmed from Wassamassaw Community Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Wassamassaw Community Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (304 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 8 mentions

“Would give it 5 stars except that it's not always as well maintained as it should be.”

🌳 shaded & cool 7 mentions

“Grass stays trimmed, still enjoying this shady dog park.”

Fantastic secret little place, it has restrooms, a great playground, walking trail, enclosed play areas for the doggies and picnic shelters. First of many times that I'll be coming here. It is perfect for a family picnic.

Wassamasaw Community Park dog part area is pretty basic. There are two different fenced in areas for small vs bigger dogs. Semi-shaded. Benches to relax on while your dog plays. There’s nothing extra about them-no play scape for dogs or anything. There is a water fountain outside the fenced in area.

We live in Summerville and are delighted to learn that the park has reopened. We have taken our dogs regularly over the years since the park opened. Nicely shaded dog areas, with benches and bag stations. Two sides - under 20 lbs. and over for larger dogs.

Fantastic park! The playground was updated March 2024 and now includes a tall tower structure with slides, spinning toys, teeter totter type toy, and swings. My kids loved it! Fully fenced with two benches to sit on, picnic tables available under the adjacent pavilion. Good shade coverage from trees.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • At the trailheadrestrooms, water — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
