Confirmed from Watson Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
City park with picnic areas, sand volleyball courts, a grassy field, and a trail, plus swimming.
What runners say about Watson Park
“Pretty clean but we did come across some broken glass on the beach.”
“Trees will keep you shaded but on the really hot days definitely still wear sunscreen and bug spray.”
“Nice quiet park in the middle of the city, with a fairly big grass lawn and 3 slightly rundown (but still usable) sand volleyball courts.”
We just moved to merrimack about a month ago, and decided to check out the park. It was definitely worth it. Lots of fishing spots, nice trails, plenty of quiet sitting spots, and I personally love all the random tags/artwork everywhere. Most certainly a good spot to unwind.
Great little park with quiet area to sit around or play volleyball. There are a few charcoal grills and plenty of grass. There looks like a great walking trail along the river but the town installed a fence and it's currently off limits. Looking forward to it opening as well as the winter ice rink.
Loved it. Great place to bring the family and just have a fun time. Trees will keep you shaded but on the really hot days definitely still wear sunscreen and bug spray. Really an easy place to go if you are in the area and don't have anything else to do. Just enjoy the day.
This Park is a great and safe spot for children to swim. Has trails in the area. Shady spot to sit and have a picnic, read or play. This park is free for residents only. A great place to take your children for the day. They'll always have fun at play.

“If you do come here to play volleyball, keep in mind that folks bring their dogs here as well, so make sure they don't get your ball first 😉”

The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
