Confirmed from Whittemore Glen State Park Scenic Reserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Wild area for hiking & horseback riding on trails that wind through a landscape of trees & hillside.
What runners say about Whittemore Glen State Park Scenic Reserve
“a hiking trail and ideal for long walks and jogging.”
“Miles of trails & peace and quiet.”
Great bike path. We took a detour in Naugatuck and did the red trail. The Maeshattuck Trail is a great loop hike. There is a view that we did not expect.
Great walking trail for runners, dog walkers and nature hikers. There is one perpetually wet spot right at the trailhead which you can get around by diverting along the apartment complex lawn. Today, we saw a hawk riding the thermals in slow circles. Early mornings see good for seeing deer running through the trees.
Great spot if you like long walks through the woods on a trail. The trail is pretty wide , plenty of room for two people to walk side by side with plenty of room left.
One of the best parks in the area, it's flush with greenery...a hiking trail and ideal for long walks and jogging.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
