Confirmed from Wilderness Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Shady park featuring trails for hiking, jogging, biking, running.
What runners say about Wilderness Park
“I never feel worried about being there alone, because the place is well maintained and many people enjoy using the many trails by running, biking or walking their dogs.”
“Wife and I rode the bicycles through the park and enjoyed the shade and peaceful setting.”
“Nice walking paths that are very clean with slight elevation changes(IT IS KANSAS) Very family friendly.”
Amazing hiking trails at Wilderness Park. Lots of nature to observe while getting sun and exercise.
This is by far my favorite place to visit. Everytime I visit I have such a positive experience walking amongst the forest. Sometimes I have encountered wildlife such as deer, rabbits, turtles, and many different species of birds.
I’m not an extremely experienced trail hiker, but have spent a lot of time in the woods. The trails are marked, but not necessarily apparent when you’ve made the return loop back and how to navigate back to the park entrance.
Wilderness Park feels like a piece of untamed wilderness. Beautiful paths that loop around and each time I go, I find another surprise waiting for me. It's a great place to escape, get some fresh air, and connect with nature. Trails can be challenging, so bring water, good hiking shoes, and a furry friend!

Plan your run at Wilderness Park
The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
