Confirmed from 100 Steps' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Hiking area characterized by its stairs.
What runners say about 100 Steps
“Great views, lots of people working out after work hours and the weekends.”
It’s good exercise to walk the stairs. But some people walking or driving by have no respect for nice things the city do.
I call them the 'Stairway to Hell' or 'The 5 Tiers of Death' .... it's a Hell of a workout! Theres a steep ramp for those in a wheelchair or on a bike who want cardio or people who can't walk the steps....Come and try to conquer it, I dare you or stay home and cry!!!
Beautiful view from the top of the 100 steps. Clean and beautiful. It conveniently connects The Heights and Hoboken, and just a short walk from the light rail stop.

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
