Confirmed from 381 Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“Trail is well marked and 10mins drive from outskirts of asheville so it was close by.”

👟 good for all levels 3 mentions

“Nice moderately easy trail, be sure to take the trail on the same side of the parking area.”

Pretty moderate uphill hike that runs parallel to the parkway about 1.3 miles to the Haw Creek Overlook and aptly named Lunch Rock for a fabulous view. Plenty of parking at well-marked trailhead. Leaves are gorgeous. No restrooms and safe enough for solo hikers.

Pretty nice hike, excellent views, although the parkway is running along, you do hear all the cars driving by. We were lucky enough to see a big black Bear, and some nice colors on some of the tress which still had leaves. Although, before I could take a picture, Bear decided to walk away deep into the woods.

Parking spots available off road. About a 45 minute walk, 1.5 miles, to the top. The trail is open post-Helene but the effects are well seen along the way. Beautiful views when you get to the top though and spots to sit on the rocks to rest before turning back.

Lots of great trails all through the area. some of the trails are marked better then others so pay attention so you don't get lost. Dogs were welcome, and I saw them both on and off leash.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
