We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Urban Trail yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Historic trail leading visitors through town, with stops at various points of interest.
What runners say about Urban Trail
The trail itself is a little hard to follow. You'll need to be kind of map savvy. But I used it as a general guide to walk around downtown and just find interesting things on the street that you would otherwise miss. It's a good general guideline if you've never been to Asheville and would like some direction
Great walk around Asheville. We found some pretty cool hidden gems (restaurants and shops and artwork) as we walked the trail and even learned a bit about the history of Asheville.
Fun walking tour! I just wish they had an app so it would’ve been easier to listen and walk using the interactive map. It’s great if you just want to get acquainted with downtown Asheville.
We only had an hour and a half to explore Ashville so we followed the urban trail through the first 16 stops. My 10 and 14 year old were not very interested, but my husband and I liked it. It gave us a route to explore the town and the shops instead of walking around randomly and we learned a bit in the process.

The practical stuff
- AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
