Confirmed from Anchorage Overlook Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

A beautiful little trail that's super easy, paved and everything, and gives a great overlook of the city. There's a giant metal compass at the top that points to different mountains and on a clear day you can even see Denali.

★★★★★ — Oliver , Jun 2024

Great short hike with one of the best views over Anchorage. The trail is easy to moderate depending on how far you go, and the payoff is an incredible overlook of the city, mountains, and Cook Inlet. It’s quick to get to, not too crowded if you go at the right time, and perfect for a short stop with big scenery.

★★★★★ — Hector , Jul 2026

Easy short trail from the parking lot with a great view! $5 for parking. You can also do the flattop trail and blueberry knoll trail from the same parking lot, but it is steep in some places and we did not see any blueberries.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 10 mentions

“Located about 20-25 minutes from downtown Anchorage, it's a perfect spot to get a panoramic view of the city.”
