Confirmed from Athey Natural Area's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Athey Natural Area

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (97 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 3 mentions

“This is such a beautiful place I'm sitting here just enjoying all of God's nature it's so beautiful here I think everybody that comes over here would love it”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“Quiet and peaceful, plenty of deer and birds.”

What's not to do at this park, I spent all day here. Nature trails, paddle trail, golf course, kid areas, BBQ areas, Rose garden, and more. Will definetly go back

★★★★★ — Amanda , Jan 2020

Great short walk, easily accessible at either end. The day I walked the trail wasn't passable at one point unless you didn't mind water up to your ankles. But side trails cut back to the road and paved walking path so that works. Great flora - I loved the cedar elms, very impressive.

From here we walked to the Riverfront walk. I think if I came back, I would park closer the the river and just walk there. Lots of woodpeckers in the trees as well as, chickadees, titmouse, cardinals and Killdeer (on the ground) to name a few birds we saw.

★★★★☆ — Emma , Feb 2022

Very nice trail and an off the beaten path to enjoy nature. Great to walk or ride the bike.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🤫 Quiet / uncrowded 3 mentions

  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
