Confirmed from Aukerman Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“The open unmowed field is beautiful and a nice change of pace from the woods of most Metroparks.”

🐕 dog-walking favorite 4 mentions

“The parking lot is always crowded with walkers, bicyclists, dog walkers which leads to paved all purpose trails.”

Nice place to take your dog for some agility training. A pavilion and restrooms on site They say that dogs must be leashed at all times, but I find that hard to believe if you are running your dog through the agility course. Mowed grass area around the park for a short walk.

Good hiking area, picnic spot, dog exercise area and park to walk on the metro parks trail

★★★★★ — Ravi , Jul 2025

This is a really nice smaller park. The open unmowed field is beautiful and a nice change of pace from the woods of most Metroparks. For a quick evening walk, this has quickly become one of my favorites.

★★★★★ — Carolyn , Sep 2021

Has nice walking paths for the dogs that lead to various pieces of agility equipment. Large pavilion and restroom facilities also available. The parking lot is always crowded with walkers, bicyclists, dog walkers which leads to paved all purpose trails. It is also wheelchair accessible.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
  • SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
