Confirmed from Balance Rock Loop Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Popular spot for hiking and picnics, featuring a large balancing rock.

A beautiful place to hike. These are picnic tables there, so I'll have to pack a lunch someday when I bring the kids there. Too bad there's griffitti on the rocks.
You just gotta go there no matter what season. i have lived in Pittsfield all my life its great for hiking biking snowshoeing cross-country etc. They say that a receding glacier left that here like that i think its beautiful if you hike check out all the stone formations .
The infamous "balance rock" is right next to the parking lot. The trails are very beginner friendly as it is a mellow trail that loops. There are also ATV and motorized vehicle trails
It’s a nice hike area, there’s benches to sit down at and cool rocks to climb up on for cool pictures

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
