Confirmed from Bella Vista Back 40 Trail Head's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Bella Vista Back 40 Trail Head

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (85 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

Take bug spray! I didn't and found at least 100-200 tick larvae on me after a short two mile hike. Lovely trails and a real treasure to have, just be smart with the DEET!

★★★★★ — Heather , Sep 2020

Good trails. Not at all for beginners or you will find yourself at the lake and taking an uber back to the car. Also google had 2 locations for the start of the trail and one is an intersection and the other has a small parking at further away which is where we ended up.

★★★★★ — Jessica , Jun 2020

Easy to moderate trail, hiked 8 miles out and back. Not a ton of unique features (unlike Buckingham), but beautiful just the same. About 3.5 miles in you’ll be walking right by Lancashire Road with lots of traffic, so 4/5.

★★★★☆ — Meredith , May 2024

My family and I hiked this trail after connecting to it from Pinion Creek Trail. The entire area of Bella Vista is a great area to hike or mountain bike, and the Back Forty is not to be missed.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🔁 Loop trail 2 mentions

“A very good intermediate loop trail dash.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
