Confirmed from Big Walnut Nature Preserve, Tall Timbers Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Big Walnut Nature Preserve, Tall Timbers Trail
“Beautiful natural area, lots of old growth trees as well as newer planted forest, unique plants among rolling hills.”
“Not hard at all, so all levels can complete it.”
Beautiful hiking trails that touch the creek. Lots of up and down, but not strenuous. Paths are cleared but not super wide. Not at all crowded. Went on a weekend and only saw one other couple. Was pretty dry when we went, but some trails cross streams that were shallow at the time.
Perfect trails for strollers or people who don't need them. Great place to enjoy some peace and quiet. Also great for letting your kids or pets burn energy. Nice to know that there's no poison weed killer used near where people and animals walk too. Will come back!
Very well kept and a smooth trail to walk. Not hard at all, so all levels can complete it. Very reclusive and a bit out of the way but I felt that only made it even more intriguing.
Hall Woods and Tall Timbers Trail(Fortune woods) are great places to hike. If you're not a local, you probably don't know about these trails. The Tall Timbers portion was slated to be a reservoir in the 60's but conservationists saved the area. I'm so glad they did.
