Confirmed from Bothin Marsh Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Home to shorebirds, waterfowl & endangered species, this 106-acre wetland offers hiking & fishing.
What runners say about Bothin Marsh Preserve
“Walk past Piatti, Ferrari, Acqa Hotel, gorgeous views, otherwise eh of a walk!”
This is a great multi-use trail and the most straightforward segment for my running in the urban parts of Marin country, linking up Sausalito/Marin City and the towns further north like Mill Valley, Larkspur or Tiburon. The views aren't spectacular but at least peaceful and relaxing.
A beautiful walk and scene within the city. Lots of people walking and jogging, cyclists as well; there is a dog park along the path, and several soccer fields where you can appreciate families spending Sundays together. Joyful experience.
A beautiful paved trail with amazing sites of birds and ducks. Bring the dogs, but for safety make sure the pups are leashed and avoid being in the way of cyclists.
I try to combine a walk through the Bothin Marsh Preserve with a trip to Trader Joe's. Always excellent opportunities to photograph birds.

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
