Confirmed from Butte Creek Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Butte Creek Trail
“Well maintained and not crowded”
“Winds through beautiful private property and a golf course.”
“Great local prehistoric history, easy hike and exercise!”
Butte Creek is one of the 3 creeks on the west side of Prescott which converge in downtown Prescott. This trail starts at Stricklin Park, plenty of street parking. It criss-crosses the seasonal creek and borders Capital Canyon private golf course. skirting private homes for a good portion.
Even on a sunny and swelt|ring day you can walk this trail in shade. I've only twice in one year encountered another person here. It's so tranquil and safe because there are homes within view in case you need to call out for help.
Great trail! Winds through beautiful private property and a golf course...so well maintained and marked...beautiful!
Creek with some water in it runs parallel to trail. Short easy trail. Great for walking a dog on leash.

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
