Confirmed from Buttermilk Falls' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Buttermilk Falls

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (197 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 6 mentions

“Totally love this unexpected beautiful place which can only be reached with a little hike.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“Waterfall is very peaceful and relaxing.”

👟 good for all levels 2 mentions

“Very few people around - nice short and easy trail from the parking lot to Buttermilk Falls - a short dam with it's scenic backwater.”

Hawk view parking is the easiest access to the waterfalls. If you like hiking on a very rocky trail for a long long walk then you can try going to washington valley park's parking spot.

Totally love this unexpected beautiful place which can only be reached with a little hike. The trail isn’t very smooth or easy and can be muddy most of the times. But the waterfall spot is good place to have fun though it isn’t a big area.

Short casual route (yellow trail), not physically taxing when it comes to climbing or traversing, however be prepared for lots of uneven rocky terrain. Views are amazing. Checks videos and pictures to see for yourself...or don't waste anymore time reading this review and go out there and get that heart pumping :)!

Love this waterfall. I recommend if you want to see the the whole waterfall that you go to the bottom of the fall. I think their are 3 ways to get down. I took the route that requires a bit of rock climbing and is closest to the entrance to the park.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🏞️ Scenic views 25 mentions

“The waterfall water is generally safe to drink, though I understand it might not be suitable for everyone.”
