Confirmed from Capital Area Greenbelt's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Capital Area Greenbelt

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (167 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 6 mentions

“It's hard to express just how happy it makes me to have a beautiful, shaded walking/biking path just minutes from where I live.”

🪧 well-marked 3 mentions

“Dropped in at mile marker 16 off of 19th, and road to mile marker 3, turned around and came back.”

Ever since we found out my trunk bike carrier works on our SUV late this summer, we've fervently explored biking trails around the Harrisburg area before the season's over. One of the first things that came to mind would of course be the Capital Area Greenbelt.

The ride is excellent. Mostly it’s on paved surfaces, some unpaved and some just a bit challenging. A gravel bike (I was riding my Specialized Diverge with Pirelli 40 mm M tread tubeless) is useful, but I’m sure a good rider on a road bike with 28 or 30 mm tires would be fine.

Very nice and well maintained trail. We loved it!! This was our second time on this trail. We parked and began our 20 mile bike ride loop from the City Island and crossed the awesome old bridge. The beginning of the trail was on the sidewalk along the river (today it was 46 degrees. Cold!!

One of the jewels of the Harrisburg area. 20 plus mile loop for biking and walking. Some parts are on city streets so parents should be aware. The trail includes riverfront park and you can easily connect to city island.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🛣️ Paved surface 12 mentions

“It's a 23 mile route interconnecting paved paths, crushed-stone trails, and public roads.”
