Confirmed from Captain Daniel Wright Woods Forest Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

I try to make it out here at least once a month from the city. It's definitely a bit of a hike, but worth it. There are a handful of walking trails and a small playground for little ones.

It s nice place to walk and enjoy the nature, it wasn’t easy to reach the entrance as google maps guides me to wrong way through Elm street. The best way to reach the entrance through St Mary street. It s free admission, lots of parking lots. It has playground for kids and many benches to relax and enjoy the scenery.

This has always been a favorite site for us to visit during the Fall season. The foliage here puts on a beautiful show and there's also a path that runs along the Des Plaines River. And, it also connects to the Half Day Forest Preserve. 😉

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
