Confirmed from Cardinal Greenway D St. Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Cardinal Greenway D St. Trailhead
“Ran my personal best jogging on this wonderful trial that runs nearly 2 miles from one end to the other.”
Finished up the whole Cardinal Greenway. This was our starting point. Loved the trail. It was a blessing on our hike west. Very clean and friendly to thru-hikers. We had a cart and two dogs. No issues. The water was off at a few places but that was due to the temps. The cleanest portopoddies ever.
Beautiful segment of the greenway between the D Street & Tingler trailheads, very worthwhile.
Easy to find parking. Can go either north or south on the trail from this parking spot
Great place if you want to fish. Walk. Or ride your bike. Great in the fall and Spring. Good for kids and adults alike. Wish they could connect to the 1 on 17th goes all the way to 24th Street make it so it goes all the way toTest Road. It would do Richmond well. Would be very popular guaranteed!

Plan your run at Cardinal Greenway D St. Trailhead
The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
