Confirmed from Castle Rock Trail Entrance's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Castle Rock Trail Entrance

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (75 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 7 mentions

“Open year-round Beautiful to visit anytime Most of the trail has a gentle slope of 5% or less There are steeper sections at around 0.”

Watch your step as many critters creep, crawl, and slither hither and thither! Sometimes they are brazen enough to cross your path other times they hide behind the grasses or hope you didn't take note of them. Leave no trace when you enter and remember this is but the beginning of a journey!

★★★★★ — Ulixes , Nov 2020

The Castle Rock trail is my go-to when I need a short escape + workout. It has some good hills, great views and an occasional run-in with the local wildlife. Dogs can go off-leash once up in the hills.

★★★★★ — Kristin , Mar 2019

A wide variety of trails all in one spot. Walk the wide slow elevation changing main trails or take one of a dozen smaller trails that cut off and get narrow and or very steep in no time at all. The trails all loop back onto each other too.

★★★★★ — Adam , Mar 2016

Great hiking area. Bring water and food! If you go early you can see different species of wildlife like Foxes and Bobcats, if you go later in the day you'll see... People. Lol either way, great hike to get exercise!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
